Overlanding Bed Racks
We build some of the best bed racks available today using the finest materials, robust construction techniques, and proven designs. We offer excellent design and execution flexibility to accommodate the unique character and execution of your overland rig.
Bed racks are one of the best ways to quickly convert a pickup truck into an overlander. One just loads the rack, bolts it down tight, and heads off to adventure. We work with all makes and models of truck and can provide bespoke solutions to unique or older vehicles. We work with customers to provide options that are consistent with the use, design, and budget for the rack.
Trail Rated Overland Bed Racks
We TIG weld our 6061 aluminum bed racks into a single unified structure. Unlike mail-order solutions that bolt together from a myriad of parts, our designs are built to survive extended on-trail exposure. We offer multiple design options including enhanced reinforcement for extreme off-road conditions or weight carrying requirements. We also build with chromoly tube when you need something bulletproof.
Bed Rack Solution
- Rooftop Tents: A core purpose of the bed rack is to provide a convenient mounting location for a rooftop tent. We design our bed racks to integrate with the rooftop tent chosen for the application. Overall vehicle height, aerodynamic shapes, enter/exit side, and awning mounting locations are just some of the considerations that go into the design of a functional bed rack.
- Storage: Bed racks offer a convenient opportunity to store gear and supplies such as fuel, water, gear, traction boards, and so forth. We design bed racks within the broader strategy of how to carry what is needed for extended periods of remote travel.
- Design: We encourage customers to think about the design of the bed rack against the broader context of how it will be used in the field. If accessing the tent involves one foot on top of the back tire as a step, is a grip necessary on the bed rack rib? If the 270-degree awning opens on the driver side, which way should the tent be oriented? Is a light on the back rail required for cooking at night?
Overland Bed Rack Construction
- Materials Matter: Our base bed rack is constructed from 1/8 wall 2 inch square 6061 alloy aluminum tube that is TIG welded together. The use of one of the strongest aluminum alloys allows optimum strength with considerable weight savings. In the most extreme applications, we can build bed racks using TIG welded chomoly steel, which is commonly used in race car roll cages.
- Custom Sizing: We have standard ‘rib’ profiles that match the shape of each given truck, but can modify the profile and height of the bed rack to integrate with the roof top tent and/or other components mounted above. Designing a bed rack involves the maximization of under-rack storage space, rear viewing capability, on-side and top storage strategy, and vehicle aerodynamics. We offer design flexibility that enables customers to optimize their rig based on their parameters.
- Paint: We offer a range of options with respect to chemical coatings, including no paint at all if the customer prefers. Our base option is a two-component polyurethane coating that is tough, flexible, abrasion resistant, with excellent weather resistance. In certain cases, we can even match the bed rack to the factory paint on the truck.
Accessories and Add-Ons
- Mounting Hardware: We can work with you to make the equipment you intend to use function properly. The bed rack is a skeleton of sorts and serves as a mounting point for various components. We commonly design and fabricate mounts, grips, anchors, and so on to make everything work together.
- Storage Options: We make standard tool box type storage lockers that fit into the sides of the bed rack and can configure based on what is required for your build. We provide mounting options for industry standard components (e.g., RotopaX, Maxtrax) and a storage shelf option that spans the bed directly behind the cab.
- Lighting: We offer standard as well as custom lighting packages and control box options that allow for the removal of the bed rack with a single disconnection plug. Options include cargo lights, side lights, rear lights, cooking lights, and charging port options.
Overland Bed Rack Installation and Setup
- Custom Fitting: We measure your specific truck and talk through your needs before building anything. CAD work ensures proper fit before we start welding. Test fitting happens before final assembly.
- Shop Installation: Professional mounting at our facility includes safety checks and function testing— and you get documentation and maintenance tips for long-term reliability.
- Ongoing Support: We will make modifications and additions as your setup evolves. We will also provide maintenance guidance to keep everything working and offer a warranty on materials and quality.
